God gives.......

Enough. No more or less. Just what I need in that moment.

He is good.

What is Lent? For most in my denomination it's either a thing Catholics do or a time to give up chocolate or something without any real reason. Yes, Lent is a time of sacrifice, of fasting but it is also so much more.

Traditionally, Lent means fasting, praying and giving to the poor. Lent is known to be about giving things up, things that tempt or distract us; testing our self-discipline, taking a good look at ourselves and trying to become more like Christ (credit)

Lent is a time to become more like Christ, to surrender our desires, and serve those who need it most.

Fasting for me just isn't possible. Health reasons permit it. But I still feel drawn to the beauty, rhythm, purpose of the Lenten season.

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.Romans 12:1-2

These verses, to me, sum up the point of deny self and make it all about Christ and His grace.

And that is the premise of Relentless ACT:S of Sacrifice. Each week of Lent there is a new sacrifice to inspire you, to bring you closer to Christ and those who need a helping hand.

Faith practices should not be empty of meaning. There should be passion, vision, reason behind them. So this Lent I encourage you to take part, to deny self, to serve others in need, to come closer to our loving, grace-overflowing Christ.

Yeah, the needle snapped the middle of a row. :{

Due to a slight catastrophe the pillow is on hold. So thankful for the great customer service at knitpicks. Now to hurry up and wait for my needles to arrive.

With no pillow to knit I decided to find a quick project to use some of the goods I had on hand and so I am working on a little knit bag. It's supposed to be felted, but my crazy washer locks and won't open until the end of the wash so I am going with it unfelted.

Still slowly digesting Simplicity Parenting. So much good information in there that takes a bit to process. Hoping to finish it up within the next couple days so I can move on to my books for Lent.

Maybe by next week both projects and books will be done? :)

How Many Bibles Can a Girl Read?

Really, how many Bibles does one family need? Yeah, there are five of us but pretty sure we don't need as many as we have. So, inspired by Amy I decided to see how many we really have.

Well, just in this picture there are eleven. Add in the one my honey takes to work, the one on my ipod, and the two I found in a nightstand later and our total comes to 15. Fifteen Bibles. And all of them are NIV. There's not even any variety. Kind of made me realize how selfish we really are...especially since most of them sit on the shelf since we each have our favorite that we read all the time.

And so, in response to the revelation of how blessed with God's Word we are our little family will be making a donation to One Verse to share that blessing with others. And maybe donating a few of these Bibles to those around us who could use them. It's better than using them as dust collectors.

And if you haven't yet....head over to Make me a Mary and read Amy's post that inspired my Bible hunt.

Ultimate Love

True, accepting, unconditional, all-you-need love.

And for some great ideas to show love to your spouse head here. Really, just read everything that's been posted at We are that family from February 1-15. Good, good stuff.

Yarn Along :: February 15

Not too much to report here. Finished the back of the pillow and Global Soccer Mom. Now on to the front with it's color changes and Simplicity Parenting. So much good stuff in the book that I wish I had it on audio so I could knit while listening. We desperately need some simplicity around here.

Poverty Around the World

Love is....

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Pondering this long and hard. When life throws curve balls and stress mounts all one can do is fall back on love......the love Christ has for me, loving those around me even in the ugly moments. Trying desperately to not be swayed by circumstances, but rather cling to what really matters. Love.

Yarn Along :: February 8

Busyness has reared it's ugly head lately and not much knitting or reading has gotten done. Instead it's been a time of trying to get it all done and not fall into the feeling of failure or comparison with others who seem to do it all. So, the knitting has fallen off to the side but I am in desperate need of picking it up again. It has become a way to relax, to relieve the stress, to create a bit of beauty in life. Praying fervently that all will fall into place and I can carve out some time for creating.

On a different note, our weather here has been bitterly cold (thank you Siberia) and I want to knit some toasty socks. Any easy patterns for a first time?

A Billion for a Billion

The world has enough for man's need, but not enough for man's greed. ~Ghandi

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

The blows......verbal, emotional, physical.....dominated my first love. Eventually all self-worth was gone. How could someone possibly love me? Over and over it was demonstrated that I was worthless, had no value.

In the darkness of those years my back was turned to true love......Christ love. How could He possibly love me? All the mixed up, scarred, ugly me?

Through the darkness His hand reached out. Not in a way I ever would have expected, but He showed me love. My {now} husband accepted me bruises, insecurities, baggage, all the crazy ugly I tried so hard to hide. And his love demonstrated Christ's love to me.

There will always be scars from the past. In moments of doubt, of feeling value-less He shows His love for me by bringing me security, unconditional love, acceptance from my sweet love. He has blessed me with a man who chooses to live out the Biblical mandate for marriage and by that has shown me Christ. The blows are gone.....replaced only with love.
